MSD employees select Barnardos as its local charity of choice
MSD, a global pharmaceutical company, announced Barnardos has been selected as its local charity of choice, providing an annual corporate sponsorship of $100,000 and pledging significant volunteering resources through its broad and diverse employee base to the charity.
Barnardos is a leader in Australia in child welfare and child protection and protects and improves the lives of children who suffer abuse, neglect, homelessness or poverty throughout Australia.
"Barnardos have been doing a tremendous job for children and adolescents in the community for a long time and MSD wanted to contribute to that in a meaningful and multi-dimensional way," said Jane Orr, Managing Director – Australia & New Zealand, MSD.
MSD has over 1,000 employees in Australia and its employees were given the opportunity to provide input into the selected charity.
"Our employees told us it was important for themselves, and the company, to continue our enduring commitment to corporate responsibility. In fact, 90% of our employees told us in a recent internal survey they would like to volunteer their time to charitable work and 80% of them wanted to do so in partnership with their colleagues at MSD," said Ms Orr.
MSD has a policy that provides all employees three days each year of company time to volunteer their efforts and skills to charitable works. This may be through unskilled or skilled volunteering, fundraising or any other way that help people in the community.
"We have many employees want to help in the community which in turn it helps foster a very collaborative work culture. This makes MSD a great place to work," Ms Orr added.
